Work Study


College Work-Study (CWS) programs, both federal and state-funded, provide part-time employment opportunities for students with financial need to help cover educational expenses. In the Metrocrest area—encompassing Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, and parts of Coppell and Lewisville—several resources and institutions facilitate access to work-study opportunities. Below is a summary of available resources:


UNT college

University of North Texas Offers the Federal College Work-Study Program, allowing eligible students to work part-time in specified on-campus or off-campus positions to earn money for educational expenses. Wages start at the federal minimum wage and vary by position. For eligibility, Students must complete the FAFSA, indicate interest in work-study, demonstrate financial need, and be enrolled at UNT. Earnings are treated as financial aid, not income, for FAFSA calculations.

UT Arlington

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) offers a federal and state work-study program, providing part-time job opportunities to help students pay for education expenses, with eligibility based on need-based financial aid. Undergraduates are automatically considered, while graduate students must apply directly through the Office of Financial Aid; check MyMav to confirm and accept your award. You must seek and apply for jobs via Handshake, with pay based on hours worked, not exceeding your awarded amount, and participation is optional. Texas Higher Ed

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Administers the Texas College Work-Study Program (TCWS), providing part-time, on-campus jobs for students with financial need. UNT, located near the Metrocrest area, participates in this program, alongside other state grant programs like TEXAS Grant and TEOG.

Texas residents enrolled at least half-time, not receiving athletic scholarships, and registered for Selective Service (or exempt). Requires FAFSA or TASFA completion to demonstrate need.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County College offers Federal and State Work-Study programs, providing part-time jobs for students to earn money for education expenses. Positions are available on-campus or with community partners, with flexible hours to accommodate class schedules. Eligibility requires FAFSA completion, enrollment in at least 6 credit hours, and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
