The WIC program in Texas is part of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, a federally funded initiative administered by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). It aims to improve the health of low-income pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children under age five who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health and social services.
